TPS Extended Reportedly for Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador

Newspapers are reporting that the United States government plans to announce that temporary protected status (TPS) will be extended by one year for those from Nicaragua, Honduras, and El Salvador.

TPS is a status that allows people from certain countries to stay in the United States as long as they register during the initial period and remember to re-register every time they need to. (So those with TPS need to prepare applications to re-register.) Because it is a temporary status, it needs to be renewed every so often because each time TPS is granted, it is for a limited time period.

Officials are not making official comment until an official announcement is made, which some say may happen on February 24th. We'll see.
